Day 21

So, this is day 21, and what have I learned?

I've almost eliminated wheat, sugar, and sugar substitutes from my diet. The result is that I'm far less hungry, often eating about 1200 calories a day. I haven't beencounting calorie on a regular basis, but I took one day's calorie count and added 200 for snacks and things I don't know the count of, like my 1/2 cup of home-made yogurt I have in the morning with my 4 over-easy eggs, and the two mugs of coffee or tea with cream I have every morning before I switch to water.

I've been adding a few bodyweight execises to my day, in addition to my job, which requires lots of heavy lifting at times, and lots of moving around at a slow pace.

I've been getting lots of sleep, going to bed at the same time every night, and even on my days off, I wake up at nearly the same time in the morning.

After all this, I bounced around between 170lbs and 165lbs to arrive at 167lbs. In the middle of these 21 days, I had a period, but that didn't affect my weight much at all. I'm feeling slightly discouraged. Maybe I'm eating too little, but I'm not any hungrier than usual, on less food. There's a slight difference in how my clothes fit, but not enough to definitively point to and say, 'Yay, I've made a definitive change.'

Overall, I think my health has improved. My disposition is more optimistic, I sleep better, my skin is clearer. So, it was worth it to do this, I just have to continue and see what another 21 days does, while trying to eat a bit more of the good stuff.

Anyone else out there starting ut on your journeys? Sometimes, there's resistance, and we have to push on. My body is a bit resistant now, but If I keep going, and maintain healthy habits, I'm sure I'll see the changes I want.

Good luck, everyone!

Love Jessica Biel

http://yourfitnesspath.blogspot.ca/2011/01/jessica-biels-workout-revealed_04.html

I'm a huge fan of Jessica Biel, in everything she's done. Because of Jessica and Ryan Reynolds, my favorite movie right now is Blade: Trinity. The new Total Recall is kick-ass too, but I love the subway scene in Trinity, with the attitude of  'I can and I will kick your ass.'  Plus, as a bonus, my body when I'm in shape is of similar proportions to hers.

Thank you Jessica, for all the hard work that you do!

Congratulations, Chaz Bono!

Chaz Bono lost 60 lbs following a clean diet and avoiding grains and starch. He looks great, and I think he deserves credit. It's not easy to change your lifestyle so drastically, I hope he can continue and regain all of his health.

See his results here.

The comments of the article unfortuneately are dominated by the topic of his sex change, which is neither here nor there. He made a decision, no doubt with a great deal of reflection and advice, and he followed through with it. Deal with it. He looks so much happier now.

Day 16 This was me.

This was me a year ago. In all ways measurable, this is how I looked 16 days ago, too. Since then, I've lost only 4 lbs, but I've been eating clean and adding extra exercise into my life. It's only been 16 days, so there's probably no significant difference yet in how I look, but I know that yesterday I wore the pants that I was wearing in that picture, and they fit slightly less tight than they used to fit.

So, I wanted to make this picture part of this record. When I tell people I have 40 lbs to lose, they often say, 'No you don't', or 'Where?'  because a body in motion is harder to see bulk on than a body in a picture. I have a body type that keeps the extra weight mostly between my ribcage and my knees, with a smidge in my breasts and my arms. If I took off my shirt, you'd see my rib cage, but my belly is soft, and my butt and thighs are pillowy. So, while I am eating clean, trying to lose fat, Iam doing some arm work, but my main focus is ab and leg work.

I know that's an especially bad picture, like I'm trying to hide, but somehow appearing bigger in spite of it, but it is my shocker picture, the one I refer to as motivation. The one I show myself to say, 'See? You need your health back!'

Do you have similar pictures? Instead of hiding or deleting them, could you use them, to motivate yourself, and later celebrate? You don't need to hate the, they are pictures of you. You wouldn't be where you are today without that past self, so don't chide her for being a slob, tell her it's going to be ok, and you're working on a solution.

ETA: It's been 16 days, as I've already mentioned, and I've made mistakes in my eating, but overall, I've not been any more hungry than usual, I had good resons for my bobbles. As the song goes, 'Je ne regrette rien!' I had a packet of coconut M&M's on day 14 to celebrate 2 weeks of clean eating. At my sister in law's birthday party, I had half of a white bun with dinner (I found it tasteless, so I didn't want the other half), and a moderate slice of ice cream cake. The cake was just enough to enjoy, not enough to overpower me with sweetness. I'm proud of B, he had a slice half as big, and he was satisfied. So, improvement, not perfection, and it's been over 2 weeks of improvement so far.

Wherever you are, take care of yourselves, and good luck on your journeys.

Day 11

So, I realised this morning that I don't currently have any pimples on my face. This is intriguing because I have had pimples since grade 5, and I have faint scars everywhere. Also, my face hasn't been burning as much lately.

At odd times, my face will flush, and it will feel hot, even to the touch. This doesn't last long, maybe an hour at the most, and it may or may not affect my whole face. Sometime, it's only my cheeks, or just one side of my face. I don't know how long I've had this happening to me, but it's something I am self-concious about.

Now, I don't want to jump to conclusions, it could be the changing of the seasons, or because I'm drinking more water, but it could also be my recent dietary changes. For the last 10 days, I've been eating as clean as I can manage, no sugar or sugar substitutes, and no wheat. That left lots of protien, fat, and leafy greens, with      some fruit.

Other effects: I'm down from 170 lbs to 166lbs, I have more energy, and I am more optimistic. So, overall, positive outcome.

I can't lie, it's been difficult to stick to, at least at first. A colleague has moved on , and there was a huge cake bought for him, and I managed to resist that, but other times, I could not resist 'just'one. This does seem to be getting easier as I go, though.

Today's power word: dog. I was watching a video by Sharee of Funeral For My Fat on youtube, and she made a comment that stuck. "Don't reward yourself with food, you're not a dog." It stuck. Everyday I write the current diet-day on my wrist, just beside my watch, often with a power word or an image. That way I am reminded how far I have come every time I check the time or date, which I do hundreds of times a day.

What little tricks do you use to keep yourself motivated?

Good luck on your journey!
I can't help but start dancing, listening to this song.

If a movie is made of my life,

I want this woman as my 'after' body-double.

http://funeralformyfat.tumblr.com

I'd say I'm at around 30 to 35% right now.

I'm pretty hot, but I'm aiming for about 20%, I'm not sure if the lowest bodyfat percentace would look good on me, but we'll have to see what the future holds.

Five Year Goals

Well, it's been far too long since my last post, and far too much has happened. B and I are still $62,000 in debt, give or take. I'm still working for minimum wage in retail, but now B's working in a different part of the transportation industry, because while training, he was informed that it wouldn't 'work out'. So between us, our income is $2800 per month, and our bills are about $2200, and we have no where to go but up from here.

Now, I want to set a few goals for the next 5 years.

First, I am losing weight. I want better health to have the energy and endurance to see me through my other goals. At my best weight, I was around 130 lbs, and last week I started at 170 lbs. Back then I was a walking, mountain climbing machine. I was also 7 years younger and not making many of the healthier diet choices. Now, I've gone wheat-free, and this week, I've gone sweetener-free (not even sugar substitutes). I've managed a full week, and I've lost 5 lbs, so I think I'll see what 21 days does.

Second, our debt needs to be paid off. That is a lofty goal right now, but both B and I are working towards better jobs, so we might be able to beat that soon. Without debt, there will be a certain freedom that I haven't seen in at least 10 years.

Third, I want to find a job I can do for more money that I can stick to for the next 30 years. Retail is fun, sometimes, but there's really not much better positions out there than the position that I have, and while I actually am making more that minimum wage, it's only by about 50 cents an hour.

So far, so good, and I think the order is right, because health will give me energy and sharpness to pay off debts, and being debt-free will allow me to go back to school if need be to find a career. I'm only 32, I've got this.

Also, new idea, I'll be posting fitspo stuff here, too! I've been sufing tumblr blogs, and I tried making one, but I prefer this format.

To anyone out there who's on a journey of improvement too, There's no reason why we can't!
